YouTube, Twitter Down After Major Internet Outage
Websites and apps including YouTube, Twitter and Airbnb were inaccessible for around 40 minutes on Tuesday, 16 August 2022, after a major internet outage.
The outage was caused by a problem with Google Cloud, which provides infrastructure for many popular websites and apps. Google said the issue had been resolved and services were gradually being restored.
The outage began at around 11:40am BST and affected users around the world. Many people reported being unable to access websites and apps, including YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Gmail.
Google said the outage was caused by a "configuration change" that had "a broader impact than intended". The company said it had rolled back the change and services were being restored.
The outage caused widespread disruption, with many people unable to access their work or school accounts, or to communicate with friends and family.
